Unsung Volunteers celebrated

Catalyst are delighted that two of our volunteers were among 50 people awarded an Unsung Volunteer Award by the Chairman of Surrey County Council, Mrs Sally Marks, last week. This is the first time the awards have been made and it was a wonderful occasion to hear some of the stories of hard work and volunteering in Surrey.

Catherine is a volunteer counsellor with the Catalyst drug and alcohol Reach Out Counselling service in Surrey and has worked with us for 4 years after a placement as part of her degree on top of a busy job working at a hostel for people with special needs.

Michael works at the fantastic bookshop ‘A Novel Idea’ which supports The Welcome Project in Godalming. He has transformed the organisation and running of the shop and it is now a well-known destination for high quality second-hand books, staffed by a team of 20 enthusiastic volunteers.

Fantastic to see them get their awards – and a great way to highlight the wonderful work all our volunteers do.
