A Novel Idea is Godalming's only chairty book and record shop. Located on Queen Street just off the High Street, the shop is run mainly by volunteers, and stocks a wide range of pre-loved books, records and CDs.

Books

There are books for everyone at A Novel Idea! Thanks to the generous donations of local people, the shop holds a variety of classic and modern fiction and non-fiction for both adults and children. We also stock first editions, signed copies, and rare and collectors' books. Areas of focus include poetry, drama, psychology, science, nature, travel, local interest, cookery, gardening, art, biography, history, sport and many more. If you don’t see what you are looking for on the shop floor, try asking one of the volunteers as it might be hiding round the back! Typically, paperbacks are priced at £2 and hardbacks start at £2.50. Specialist and collectible books are priced individually.

Records

A Novel Idea is a destination for everyone who appreciates vinyl records and CDs. Through our partnership with Make A difference with Records, we stock an extensive quality collection of records, CDs and sheet music. We sell all genres including rock and pop, jazz and blues, musicals, and classical. Rediscover old favourties or find new ones from the diverse selection of LPs and singles we carry. CDs, singles and albums are all competitively priced.

Donations

We are always looking for donations of books, records, and CD’s. You can bring them to the shop
during opening hours or contact us at bookshop@catalystsupport.org.uk.
