On Saturday, 25 November, we join millions of people and organisations around the world in observing White Ribbon Day, a global movement that aims to end violence against women and girls. White Ribbon Day is not just a date on the calendar, but a symbol of our commitment to create a safer and more equal society for all.
White Ribbon Day can mean many things to different people. For some, it is a day to reflect on their own attitudes and behaviours, and to take responsibility and action to prevent and challenge violence against women and girls in their families, workplaces, and communities. For others, it is a day to honour and remember the women who have lost their lives to men’s violence, and to support the survivors who are still healing from the trauma and pain.
White Ribbon Day is also the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that runs from 24 November to 8 December. During this period, we will be sharing content on our social media channels and reposting content from our Women’s Support Centre service based in Woking, a vital service that has been helping Women in Surrey for over 10 years.
The Women’s Support Centre welcomes Women from all backgrounds, cultures, and circumstances, and provides them with a safe and supportive environment where they can access a range of services and activities. The centre supports Women who are dealing with abuse, discrimination, trauma, homelessness, financial difficulties, and those who are navigating the criminal justice system. The centre adopts a trauma-informed and client-led approach, which means that the Women are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion, and that they are empowered to make their own choices and decisions.
We are proud to be part of the White Ribbon movement, and we are working towards ending violence against women and girls in our workplace and community. We believe that we can #ChangeTheStory for Women and Girls, and help them live their lives free from the fear of harassment, abuse, and violence. We invite you to join us in this mission, and to show your support by wearing a white ribbon, signing the pledge, or making a donation. Together, we can make a difference.
