This week marks the start of the White Ribbon campaign – 16 days of action starting on November 25th to raise awareness and take a stand against violence and domestic abuse.
White Ribbon UK was founded in 2005, and is part of the global movement to end male violence against women. This year the theme of White Ribbon Day is “Creating a future without male violence against women”, focusing on engaging with young men and boys in particular. On average, two women a week are killed through domestic abuse. There are an estimated 35,000 victims of domestic abuse in Surrey.
How you can help:
- Break the silence – start a conversation with your group of friends/work colleagues about domestic abuse** and or the work of our outreach services. The more we talk about it the more we break the silence.
- Make the promise to never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women.
- If you want to play a part, you can become an Ambassador for White Ribbon UK.
- If you’re a woman that wants to support the campaign, you can join the White Ribbon Champions programme.
