#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek and the theme this year is Nature. After a year in and out of lockdown and not being able to do much else, it’s fair to say that most of us have connected a little more with nature when out on our walks to get our daily exercise. Some have explored and found some nice beauty spots that they didn’t know existed and research from the Mental Health Foundation has found that going for walks outside was one of our top coping strategies –Â 45% of us reported being in green spaces had been vital for our mental health.
What we are doing for Mental Health Awareness Week
We will be using this week to help raise awareness about all the services we offer in #mentalhealth, encouraging people to talk about their mental health, sharing useful resources and helping to reduce the stigma. We are also encouraging our staff to get outdoors, take a break and #connectwithnature. We have recently sent some Nasturtium seeds to all staff for them to grow at home and will be hosting a Catalyst in Bloom competition.
We’re back to doing some outdoor activities and our wellbeing walk will be taking place this week for our clients. We already know that being outdoors is good for the soul and with Spring in the air, we will enjoy listening to birds and walking along a canal on this week’s walk.
Follow us on socials for daily tips, advice and local beauty spots in and around Surrey. Inspiring you to #connectwithnature.
A quote from a member of our Community Connections team about how nature helps them:
Nature calms me, its makes me grounded. If I am anxious or sad I take myself out of my day to day life and walk. Nature to me is a timeless gift that should be appreciated and loved.
