Catalyst’s regular / irregular music group of staff, volunteers and past clients, The Banned, were recently invited to provide some musical entertainment for a couple of hours at the local NHS Rehab Centre, Windmill House in Chertsey.
From their growing repertoire, they went for three great standards : “Unchain My Heart”, Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and “Sweet Home Alabama”. Residents and staff had a go at learning and performing the last of these, which went down very well.
Emboldened by the success, a combo of The Banned, residents and staff attempted a couple more songs: “Feeling Good” and “The Joker” (originally by the Steve Miller Band), with varying degrees of success and with a lot of laughter.
The evening ended with the Banned encoring with two more songs that everyone could “sing-a-long” to – “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” (The Clash) and “Stand By Me”. A repeat gig is on the cards – everyone enjoyed the experience and certainly made music part of recovery!
